Viverde
| Viverde (live + green) is a travel agency that emerged
from a passion of a Brazilian couple for the Amazon - jungle, climate,
people, the will to explore the unexplored, to live an adventure
and pass the sensation of freedom and joy to other people. Hence,
in 1993 when some industries in the Industrial District of Manaus
decided to re-located their operations elsewhere, we than decided
to change our jobs into the challenging ecological tourist direction... |
The Amazon River
The
Amazon river is the greatest river of South America and also the
largest river in water volume and catchment area. |
The river begins in the high Andes Mountains in Peru
with the name of Ucaialy. The Amazon and its tributaries flow 4,087
miles to the Atlantic through Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia
and Brazil but the largest part is in Brazil.
Among the more than thousand known tributaries there are seven whose
individual length exceed 1,000 miles:
1.Japura
2.Jarua
3.Madeira
4.Negro
5.Purus
6.Tocantins
7.Xingu.
The Madeira is more than 2,000 miles from source to mouth.
The Amazon, approximately 6,450 Km (4,000 mi) in length is, after
the Nile, the second longest river in the world. Flowing eastward
across Brazil in the broad equatorial part of South America, it
has the world's largest drainage basin, more than 7 million sq Km
( 2,7 million sq mi) or nearly 5% of the world's total land area.
It carries nearly 20% of the Earth's total discharge to the ocean
- more than the six next-largest rivers combined. The flow is so
powerful that it perceptibly dilutes the ocean water of the Atlantic
160Km (100 mi) beyond the coastline.
The depth of the river is about 12 m, reaching 91 m at some points.
The Amazon varies in width from 2 to 9 miles (3 to 14 Km). Its mouth
is more than 200 miles (320 Km) wide. At some points, the river
is so wide that from one bank a person can't see the opposite side.
The river crosses the Amazon and Para states and borders the Amapa
state. |

Pantanal
| One of the nicest, largest wild areas of Brazil...
known by it's breathless views! |
Pantanal Horse Adventure!
As the rain season is coming to its end in Pantanal, you perhaps
take a closer look.
Scientists have long appreciated the ecological value of Brazil's
Matogrossense Pantanal, and the region is recognized internationally
for its
pristine beauty.
The people of this region have an inherent love for nature and appreciate
its value. By reaching out to the communities to develop a community-based
conservation with considerable input from all involved parties,
including the tourists from abroad, the wetland area stands a good
chance of being one of nature's incredible wonders for generations
to come.
The Acurizal Ranch, located along the National Park's western border
enjoy today a large population of endangered jaguars.
The wetland region is a true ecological harbor made up of a huge
lowland plain, entirely overgrown Pantanal by abundant vegetation,
crisscrossed by rivers and sprinkled with crystalline lakes. Jaguars,
alligators, tapirs, peccaries and hundreds of species of birds populate
the wetland area with fascinating sights and sounds. No experience
is more rewarding than a photographic safari in this natural paradise.
Most Brazilian horseback outfitters work in the south-west of Brazil
(Pantanal), where the vast wilderness land makes for superb riding.
As your horse watches the trail, you can concentrate on the Pantanal
scenery.
As the rain season is slowly ending, you may have a look at one
of our Pantanal Horse Adventure. Starting out from Campo Grande
at $ 260 complete for 5 days including transfer.
Deeper information on Pantanal can be optained at http://www.braziltraveling.com/grandepantanal_text.htm |
